Clerk of the National Assembly, Roy Ngulube, has died while on official duty abroad

THE Clerk of the National Assembly, Roy Ngulube, has died while on official duty abroad.

Speaker of the National Assembly, Nelly Mutti, announced the sudden passing of Mr Ngulube.

According to a statement issued by Deputy Clerk for Administration, Loverness Mayaka, Mr Ngulube was accompanying Ms Mutti, who is attending the 150th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly and related meetings.

“The Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia regrets to inform the nation that Mr. Roy Ngulube, Clerk of the National Assembly, passed away this evening, Monday, 7th April, 2025, in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, at 20:35 hours (Uzbekistan time), after a short illness,” Mrs Mayaka said.

She said the National Assembly of Zambia is deeply shocked by the sudden loss and acknowledges Mr Ngulube’s distinguished service to the nation, most of which was in public service spanning over three decades.

“Mr Ngulube joined the National Assembly on 15th April, 2002, and rose through the ranks. He served as Assistant Committee Clerk; Executive Assistant to the Secretary General of the Southern African Development Community Parliamentary Forum (SADC PF) from 2006 to 2008; Executive Assistant to the Honourable Speaker from 2009 to 2015; Deputy Clerk (Procedure) from 2016 to 2017; and Deputy Clerk (Administration) from 2017 to 2022,” she said.

Mrs Mayaka added that Mr Ngulube was appointed Clerk of the National Assembly of Zambia in September 2023, a position he held until his untimely death.
